Apryl & Alex Wedding: East Texas in the Winter

Apryl's WeddingJanuary 26, 2013

The wedding day in Longview, Texas dawned cold and rainy …. ugh.  Having said that, most photographers would rather have an overcast day for outdoor shooting than bright sun, especially since the wedding was slated to start at 1:30 and I had the “First Look” session at around 10am.  We dodged raindrops for the rest of the morning as I captured some of the most amazing images I’ve taken to date.  The stunning faux-fur white stoles on the bride and her maids was breathtaking against the deep red of the dresses.  The church had a fair amount of grassy acreage with tall ponderosa pine trees, as well as some deciduous trees, so there was no shortage of backgrounds.  I had worked with Apryl and Alex the past July when I did their engagement shoot in Tucson so we were able to move right along.  This large family were so fun to work with–they kept me in stitches…as an aside, Alex had chosen his grandfather to be his best man–he was perfect for the job!

The reception was very unusual–a high tea (at the request of the bride)…and did I mention they had a candy ‘bar’ before the reception started?  It was a small church so they had to convert the sanctuary to a ‘reception hall’ and they set up an incredible red/white-themed candy ‘bar’ (table) in another room to keep the guests occupied during the transformation period.  What an inspired, unique and very popular idea.  The guest favors included a personalized candy bag to put your goodies in…a home run!  Once we were let back into the ‘reception hall’–it had indeed been transformed into a ‘high tea’ room complete with white linens on each of the round tables.  Apryl and Alex are both bookworms so each reception table had books from their own libraries on it, along with scones, finger sandwiches, and of course, tea (each table with a unique teapot).  There was plenty of gluten-free offerings for the bride (and many of her family), so that made it extra fun for me!  Great fun, great memories.  Thanks Apryl and Alex!
